about
Framed in the world of a retro game, and saturated in a backdrop of urgent synths and guitars, ’Pedal To The Metal’ explores themes of escapism, societal pressures, parental responsibilities and ultimately, the desire for redemption. The track’s narrative takes place in a
humble working class town where money is low but dreams are big; following a couple of young lovers and their child from naive optimistic beginnings to the harsh realities of parenthood. The protagonists of the story are compelled to escape, either physically: “I’m gonna pack up all my things and go to Mexico, maybe colder…Nova Scotia” or by turning to drink & drugs: “She tried to hold her child, instead she just went wild, she cant stand straight at all, they had to call the father and say collect your daughter, her mama’s just not capable”
lyrics
There's a man and there's a lady,
They're not sure if they're related, but they both look beautiful,
He works down in a factory,
Making lorry batteries, She's waiting on a miracle,
Put a baby in her belly,
In a supermarket carpark,
She gave birth nine months later,
To a beautiful daughter,
But he's getting drunk in a dive bar,
Consoling in a stripper who he sang to,
Nothing it feels right,
Nothing feels right at all,
I'm gonna pack up all my things and go to Mexico,
maybe colder, Nova Scotia,
I don't give a good damn, as long as i'm away from her,
She tried to hold her child,
Instead she just went wild, she can't stand straight at all,
They had to call the father,
And say collect your daughter, her mother just not capable,
Put the baby in the backseat,
and he drove miles on end,
Just couldn't get his straight,
Put the pedal to the metal,
But he still couldn't comprehend,
He pasted on a smile and he loved her,
Nothing it felt right,
Nothing felt right at all,
I packed up all your clothes,
And then we went to Mexico,
You want it colder? Nova Scotia,
I don't give a good damn, as long as you're away from her,
Daddio once told me,
The good thing are always there,
As the alcohol runs through me,
I see signs flickering everywhere,
Nothing it felt right,
Nothing felt right at all,
He packed up all my clothes,
And then we went to Mexico,
I want it colder, Nova scotia,
Dad didn't give a damn, as long as i'm away from her
